That Kind of Love
By Todd F. Cope
On our streets can be found too many youth
Who are searching to rediscover
Those former feelings of security and trust
Once providing a real sense of cover.
Left behind are the days when they played in the yard
Side-by-side with sister and brother,
With the safety of home and real friends and truth
Now unknown in the places they hover.
Instead they are learning that life can be hard
When they’re forced to rely on each other,
And the thing they’re all seeking is some type of love
That the world keeps trying to smother.
But the love they are missing is not withdrawn,
It just can’t be supplied by another.
For that kind of love can only be drawn
From the well in the heart of a mother.
